Is equipment important?

After I had some irritations with Fujifilm the Japanese camera maker and their quality of recent released X-series camera’s and their strategy to release over-priced toy camera’s, I decided to switch to Sony and bought a full frame A7ii recently. Does this makes you (me) a better photographer? no … do you make photo’s you never would have made with a Fuji X? nope … I can understand why a professional photographer is buying pro quality equipment because of reliability and durability and even as hobby photographer you want to work with the best possible camera’s and lenses to create professional material. But (in my opinion) it’s not that important. It’s the same with professional musicians. Give Jan Akkerman or any other guitar god a cheap guitar and it will sound like a vintage Les Paul or Strat because the sound is in the guitarist fingers. Same with photographers, any photographer is able to shoot amazing photographs with a way cheaper camera. I participated several times in a sort of contest where you had to buy a real cheap (analog) camera in a thrift store, using expired film and shoot with it.
